Community invited to share the warmth through #HelpThyNeighbour Blanket Drive

The #HelpThyNeighbour Blanket Drive aims to unite the South of Johannesburg in a shared act of kindness, turning blanket donations into comfort and hope for families in need.

Mall of the South, in partnership with SOJO Helping Hands Foundation and Epic Foundation, has officially launched the #HelpThyNeighbour Blanket Drive.

The drive is a community-focused initiative aimed at bringing warmth, comfort and hope to vulnerable families across the South of Johannesburg this winter.

Running until July 18, the campaign calls on shoppers, businesses, schools and community members to donate blankets as part of a collective effort to reach a target of 6700 blankets ahead of Mandela Day.

As winter temperatures continue to drop, many individuals and families are facing difficult conditions without adequate warmth or shelter.

Through the #HelpThyNeighbour Blanket Drive, the partners hope to encourage the community to come together and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

The initiative is about more than collecting blankets. It serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

Each blanket donated represents warmth and dignity for someone experiencing hardship during one of the coldest times of the year.

Centre Manager at Mall of the South, Hester Smith said: “Winter can be especially difficult for vulnerable communities, but together we have the power to make a real difference.” “We encourage shoppers, businesses and the greater community to join us in helping spread warmth and hope this Mandela Day.”

Blanket donations can be dropped off at Basement Level 0, Entrance 2, near the Bosch Service Centre at Mall of the South.

The #HelpThyNeighbour campaign reflects the spirit of Mandela Day by inspiring people to give back, uplift communities and create meaningful change through unity and compassion. Community members, tenants, schools and local businesses are encouraged to get involved by donating blankets and sharing the initiative on social media using the hashtag #HelpThyNeighbour.

Together, the community can help wrap Johannesburg’s most vulnerable families in warmth this winter.
