The Southern Suburbs Hindu Cultural Society (SSHCS) aided vulnerable families in Robertsham during July.

The families received much-needed relief through the Winter Drive 2026, a community outreach initiative focused on providing warm clothing and food during the coldest months.

The drive, organised by local volunteers and donors, rolled out two major activities aimed at supporting the elderly, children, and residents experiencing hardship.

The first phase saw the distribution of warm clothing and blankets to families across the Robertsham community.

The goal was to ease the burden of winter for those most in need and ensure residents had adequate protection against the cold.

A week later, the initiative hosted a community feeding drive, serving warm meals to community members.

Priority was given to the elderly, children, and households facing financial difficulty.

Organisers thanked the volunteers and donors whose generosity made both events possible.

“Both initiatives were made possible through the generosity of our volunteers and donors, who continue to support SSHCS’s mission of giving back to the community, regardless of race or creed,” SSHCS representative Veenesh Jivan said.

The Winter Drive 2026 reflects a broader spirit of community upliftment in the south of Johannesburg, with residents coming together to ensure no one faces winter alone.
