WATCH: Turffontein residents hold candlelight vigil for Lindelwa Sikhepe

Ward 124 residents gathered to remember Sikhepe and stand against gender-based violence and crime.

Residents of Ward 124 held a candlelight vigil on October 1 in loving memory of Lindelwa Sikhepe.
The community gathered at Hay and Ferreira streets in Turffontein.

Sikhepe was a South African woman whose death recently sparked community action against crime and gender-based violence.

Her body was discovered in the early hours of September 4, near the University of Limpopo.

Unified stance

The gathering served as both a tribute to her life and a unified stance by the local community against the killing of women and rising crime rates in South Africa.

Many residents joined in support of the Sikhepe family.
