You are not alone, pensioner

Due to the then rules, I only started contributing to the pension fund in January 1981.

I want to state some basic information regarding the front page story of the COURIER, February 21 – ‘Pension delays could make him homeless’.

I was born in August 1950 and ‘forced’ to go on pension in August 2015, a member of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), a teacher/educator for TED/GDE from 1972.

Due to the then rules, I only started contributing to the pension fund in January 1981.

I have had uninterrupted service to education from January 1972 to August 2015. I also handed in all the necessary documents to the local HR office by June 2015 and received no money as from September 2015 up to end of March 2016. Sars requested an affidavit – stating that I was unemployed!

I received my first pension salary at the end of March 2016. Four to 12 months? Ha-ha! I taught mathematics at the local high school from 1985 to 2001 and have lived in the South since 1975 and have taught at Winchester Ridge, Forest Hill Primary, Meredale Primary and Mondeor High School.
