The lives of South Africa’s five ultimate rugby fans were transformed at Vodacom World in Midrand on Thursday August 29 when they drove off in their one-of-a-kind Gees mobiles to mark the culmination of Vodacom’s Gees Machine competition for the 2013 Vodacom Super Rugby season.
Some of the stand-out performers from each of the five South African franchises that participated in this year’s championship, Deon Fourie (Stormers), Pierre Spies (Vodacom Bulls), Francois Steyn (Sharks), Johan Sadie (Cheetahs) and Andries Strauss (Kings) handed over the keys to these magnificent prizes to Louis van der Craght (Bulls supporter), Hendrik Venter (Cheetahs supporter), Noluthando Tshanga (Kings supporter), Edward Strydom (Sharks supporter) and Erifaan Salie (Stormers supporter) amid loud cheers.
The competition, which ran for the duration of the 2013 Vodacom Super Rugby season, sponsored by Vodacom, Opel and Samsung was aimed at getting the spectators involved in the Super Rugby fixtures played in South Africa.
A sixth Gees mobile was won by Sharks fan, Zenzile Ngoma, whose name was drawn from thousands of customers that had renewed their Vodacom contracts during the course of the season, while Leonie Esterhuizen scooped the magnificent first prize of a state-of-the-art 75” Samsung flat screen television in a parallel competition run on Supersport.
The sight of the Gees mobiles roaring off into the distance was a fitting way to bring the curtain down on what was a remarkable 2013 Vodacom Super Rugby experience.
