Momentum ODC to commence

Action at the Momentum ODC

Momentum One Day Cup Domestic season will commence this coming Friday October 11 when the The Unlimited Titans take on Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras.

The day/night match will be played at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Local franchise bizhub Highveld Lions will be facing Sunfoil Dolphins at Senwes Park on Sunday October 13 in Potchefstroom to start their season while Chevrolet Knights play Chevrolet Warriors in Kimberley on Saturday October 12.

The 2013/2014 season was announced on Tuesday to the cricket family at Momentum’s Head Quarters in Centurion.

Last season the financial institution made a tremendous impact in its first year as a sponsor in cricket.

Now, Momentum is looking to up the ante in anticipation of a jam-packed season.

Apart from being involved in Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) premier domestic one-day competition, Momentum also announced their plans for the season ahead, including social responsibility and development initiatives that will contribute to meaningful transformation of the game plus introducing a South African tailored mobile app to excite cricket fans.

Another positive contribution last season was Momentum’s sponsorship of the South African women’s national team. Through this investment the Protea Women’s National team have a full-time coach in the recently appointed Hilton Moreeng as well as six players being afforded contracts.

These players are: Mignon du Preez, Dané van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, Marcia Letsoalo, Trisha Chetty and Shabnim Ismail.

“Momentum once again deserves to be praised for being more than just a major sponsor of cricket in South Africa,” said CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat. “Indeed I believe their culture and creativity is setting new standards for the way corporates and sport should partner with each other in our country.

“Involvement is not merely investing money in cricket but goes much further through an impressive social investments programme which seeks to build a society that promotes family values and support for underprivileged cricketers.

“We have already seen the impact from the Momentum eKasi Challenge that played a major role in energizing township cricket and where we saw the heart-warming gesture of our franchise cricketers when they spent time in Mamelodi to improve the cricket facilities.

“This year the Momentum One-Day Cup is especially important as our national selectors and the Proteas coaching staff advance the ODI squad in our quest to triumph at the 50-over Cricket World Cup in 2015.”

Momentum last year made strides towards changing the family engagement of attending live cricket matches, by introducing designated Momentum Family Areas at all one-day matches, where the emphasis was on wholesome fun for the entire family, with extra activities laid on for the children. That proved overwhelmingly popular and will remain a regular feature on the grass embankments at One-Day matches, both international and domestic.

Tickets, as usual will still be available via conventional outlets: hosting stadiums, Ticket Pros: www.ticketpros.co.za and Post Net outlets. Affordable ticket prices range from R15 to R100, with some matches being free. Check the Ticket Pros website or the Momentum Cricket App for all match details.
