2014 Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup, in a move that will help showcase the excitement, promises glamour and fun

GAUTENG Provincial Government through Gauteng Tourism has again signed as a partner and co-sponsor for the 2014 Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup, in a move that will help showcase the excitement, glamour and fun of horse racing – and also the best of the golden province. The showpiece event is set to take place at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday November 29, with the main race boasting a mammoth R2 million purse.

Barba Gaoganediwe, spokesperson for Gauteng Tourism, says that the aim of the partnership is to help grow the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup into one of the biggest horse racing, fashion and lifestyle events in Africa. “The goal for this event is for it to become associated with the top horse races around the world, such as The Royal Ascot in England, The Dubai World Cup in Dubai and The Melbourne Cup in Australia in the space of the next five to 10 years,” he says. “The SANSUI Summer Cup is a flagship event in the Gauteng City Region sporting and social calendar. It will definitely help us in positioning Gauteng as a home of competitive sports and mecca for world-class events.”

Marc Joubert, Marketing Executive at SANSUI South Africa has welcomed the passion and enthusiasm shown by the Gauteng Tourism team in coming on board. “Having our local Government on board can only do great things for the event and, as such, will do great things for elevating the SANSUI brand,” said Joubert. “Collectively, that means the event ultimately becomes one of the ‘Big 3’ races on the South African horse racing calendar.”

A day at the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup boasts all the thrills of horse racing, but also includes glamorous fashion and exciting giveaways. Racing. It’s a Rush Celebrity Dash which will see 20 of the country’s biggest names competing on the course to hand over R475 000 to SOS Children’s Villages. Race-goers also stand the chance to win one of 11 brand new cars, valued at R100 000 each, and fashionistas can compete in five chic categories: Most Elegant Lady, Most Stylish Lad, Most Striking Couple, Best Hat and Best Mo-Bro of Movember.

Mike Varney and Clyde Basel of Racing. It’s A Rush insist that horse racing provides a spectacle quite unlike any other sport. “The rush and excitement of day at the races is complimented by having a new team to support every 40 minutes!” said Varney. Basel concurs: “It’s exhilarating, the thoroughbred is amazing, the love for the horse is infectious and once you’ve been to a race, there’s no turning back!”
