TUT emerge victorious in Varsity Football

TUT defended their trophy with a humiliating 4-0 win over UJ.

TUT defended their trophy with a humiliating 4-0 win over UJ in Tshwane on September 28.

The TUT women got off to a good start with Bontle Mashilo driving a threatening shot goalwards which was inches above the top corner in the fifth minute. UJ seemed stable and kept their focus on creating opportunities and were almost rewarded when Amanda Mthandi made a break before her cross was cleared in the TUT box.

It was TUT who drew first blood when Mashilo finished a beautifully created opportunity from Rachel Sebati in the 15th minute. TUT continued putting pressure on the UJ side and kept on in search of a two-goal cushion. Sebati did not make it easy for the visitors when she made it two for TUT in the 25th minute after a strong build-up on the left wing. It was three for TUT when Kgomotso Mashiloane converted from a penalty which resulted from a handball in the UJ penalty area. The score was 3-0 to TUT at halftime.

TUT got underway for the second half and continued to bring the game to the UJ side. Refiloe Jane got the fourth for the defending champions, thanks to a well-placed cross from Salome Kekana in the 45th minute. The defending champions kept falling just short of another goal when they failed to complete a series of combinations building up to the UJ goal.

UJ failed to score when the home side opted to show their skill and play in their own box for the last five minutes of the game. The TUT supporters enjoyed watching their side humiliate the UJ ladies as they could not get hold of the ball during the skills show.

The UJ was saved by the whistle when the referee signalled the end to a rather exciting match for the defending champions. The TUT ladies are the 2017 Varsity Women’s Football champions, making it four in four consecutive years.
