Smart Golf to celebrate International Children’s Day

Children and their parents or guardians are invited to celebrate International Children’s Day at Sun Valley Golf Course on November 7, where golf will be used to promote family unity, children’s rights and life skills.

Smart Golf will celebrate International Children’s Day with a special event at Sun Valley Golf Course on November 7, bringing children and their parents or guardians together through the sport of golf.

The event will recognise and celebrate children’s rights under the theme of family unity, with the slogan ‘One family, one fairway’.

It will also provide an opportunity for children to enjoy the sport alongside their parents or guardians.

Play and learn

Smart Golf CEO and golf coach Jerry Dikgale said the event would offer children an opportunity to learn about different countries and cultures while developing important life skills.

“We are part of the bigger world. Every hole will be themed around a country or embassy. The event will be like a mini tour of the world, for example with the first hole representing South Africa, the second China, and so on.

“Flags and artefacts from each country will be displayed at their respective holes, helping to broaden children’s perspectives of the world,” he said.

Dikgale added that the initiative also aimed to strengthen family bonds and use golf as a tool to promote positive values among children.

“This day will also revive family cohesion. We will use golf to educate children and promote values that will help them grow in their entirety.

“Children will be taught values such as discipline, respect, integrity, time management and responsibility, among others,” he said.

Learn from one of the best

Corporate organisations are invited to support the initiative in any way possible, with sponsorship packages available for those interested in contributing to the event.

The day will also feature a golf clinic conducted by Norman Mashaba, one of Smart Golf’s founders, a professional golfer, television personality and accredited golf coach with the PGA of South Africa.

The clinic will give children an opportunity to learn more about the sport while developing their skills under the guidance of an experienced professional.
