Sunshine Ladies Tour pro Casandra making history

Sunshine Ladies Tour professional Casandra Hall playing VST.

The Virtual Sunshine Tour (VST) is crossing the digital divide on weekends as Sunshine Ladies Tour professional Casandra Hall took on Sunshine Tour professional and 2019 RAM Cape Town Open champion Benjamin Follett-Smith in a mixed online golf gaming showdown on May 31.

And Hall is ready to break the internet as she looks to become the first woman professional to make her mark in VST7, the seventh instalment of the head-to-heads hosted so far.

The first six rounds of the VST have seen Sunshine Tour professionals competing against each other.

On last year’s Vodacom Origins of Golf series on the Sunshine Tour, Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals competed alongside the men in the 36-hole pro-am competition and for their own prize money. Hall won twice on that series.

For Pauli van Meersbergen, a tournament director on both the Sunshine Tour and Sunshine Ladies Tour who made history when she became the first female rules official from South Africa to be invited to officiate at the 2019 Masters.

“I think golf is definitely starting to think a lot more out of the box, and this is another way to keep showcasing women’s golf more effectively,” she said.

“Looking ahead in the traditional game, when you look at what the Vic Open has done on the regular tour with men and women playing in the same tournament for equal prize money, and how we have also done that in South Africa with the Dimension Data Pro-Am and then on the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series, then you can see that more and more sponsors are interested in what mixed golf tournaments can offer. I think there is a lot of room for growth here.”

The Virtual Sunshine Tour has billed it “The Battle of the Flexes”.
