Due to the current uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has decided to postpone all the Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties until 2021.
Kosmos Tennis and the International Tennis Federation made the announcement.
The finals will now take place in Madrid in the week commencing November 22, 2021.
The decision to postpone the event comes following a three-month review of the considerable logistical and regulatory challenges that have arisen as a result of the pandemic and all potential hosting scenarios with the health and safety of all involved of paramount importance.
In addition, the ITF Board has announced that the 24 home-and-away World Group I and World Group II ties involving 48 national teams due to be played in September this year will be postponed until 2021, with ties to be played in either March or September.
The 2020 regional Group III and IV events, in which 76 national teams are entered, are also postponed until 2021.
The ITF will work with the hosts of these ties and events in order to ensure a safe environment in which they can be played next year.
The 2020 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals, which were due to be played in April this year before postponement due to the pandemic, have been rescheduled from April 13 to 18.
The finals will be played on indoor clay courts at the Laszlo Papp Arena in Budapest, Hungary. Due to the ongoing challenges presented by the pandemic, it has not been possible to reschedule the postponed finals in 2020.
In addition to the Laszlo Papp Arena being unavailable over the latter part of the year, there remain significant logistical and regulatory challenges that mean hosting an indoor mass gathering while guaranteeing the health and safety of all involved will not be feasible.
The 2020 Fed Cup Play-offs, which were also due to take place in April 2020, will now be played in February. The draw for the play-off ties will remain the same.
Additionally, the four outstanding 2020 regional events that were due to be played in 2020 (two events in Americas Group II, one event in Asia/Oceania Group II, and the Europe/Africa Group III event) will now be played in 2021, with dates to be announced in due course.
