Valhalla MMA and Fitness teams bag 25 medals
The Valhalla MMA and Fitness teams returned home victorious after competing in the Abu-Dhabi Combat Club tournament on May 20 and 21.
The Alberton martial arts academy, Valhalla MMA & Fitness, entered a large team into the ADCC (Abu-Dhabi Combat Club) tournament.
The tournament, held at the Arnold Classic Event, was hosted by the Ruimsig Sports Stadium in Roodepoort.
The team comprised youth, women and men, and the 29 entrants from Valhalla MMA brought home 25 medals.
Coach Shane Carr congratulated the athletes who made the podium.
In the Little Vikings Youth Team, Zohann Lubbe bagged two gold medals, and Willow Mitchell, Wayden Wolmarans, Conner van der Mescht, and Brodie Letley also bagged golds.
Sabrina and Noah Falcao, Troy Sharman, Teagan Snyman, Marius van der Ryst, and Amy Matthews returned with silver medals. Braeden van der Mescht, Dario Falcao and Liam Dean took bronzes.
Wesley Sharman, Coenie Lamprecht and Debbie Falcao bagged golds, while Terrence Born brought home one gold and one silver. They were all part of the adult team.
Diaan Esterhuizen got a silver medal, Michaela van Staden earned two bronzes, and Henk van Niekerk and Gavin Dean bagged bronzes.
“We are proud of the athletes’ hard work and dedication to this sport. We nurture a win-or-learn culture at the academy and encourage all our students to compete. We are blessed with a strong support system and incredible people at our academy,” said Carr.
He encouraged those who wish to start their mixed martial arts, judo or jiu-jitsu journey to try a free class at their academy.
“We offer classes for kids from five years and up, ladies-only classes, and mixed adult classes in a safe and clean environment with professional and licenced coaches. We are on 62 Charl Cilliers Avenue, Alberton North,” he explained.
