La Rochelle athlete comes second in his category
André Jansen promises to better his time in next year’s marathon.

The first Johannesburg City Marathon on March 24 gave André Jansen (69) from La Rochelle a sense of appreciation.
In his over 20-year running career, he said it was the first time he received a certificate of completion and a medal after the marathon.
Jansen, who runs for the Alberton Athletic Club, said he was gunning for 47mins in his 10km distance.
“We were 23 in the grand master’s category, and I came second, clocking 48:45, which was my best time. Next time, I will do better. I didn’t know the route this year and will plan accordingly for next year’s one,” he said.
