Stars Baseball Club shines at national championships in Boksburg
From just five representatives to thirteen in a year, Stars Baseball Club’s remarkable rise at the National Baseball Championships highlights the growing strength of grassroots baseball in Alberton.
The country’s top baseball talent recently converged in Boksburg for the National Baseball Championships, delivering a thrilling showcase of skill, determination and sportsmanship.
Among the standout performers was Stars Baseball Club, whose remarkable growth and strong representation left a lasting impression on the national stage.
A season of remarkable growth
The 2026 tournament marked a significant milestone for the Alberton-based club, highlighting a surge in participation and development.
In just one year, Stars Baseball Club more than doubled its provincial representation.
In 2025, the club was represented by three players, one coach and a team mother.
This year, that number rose dramatically to include six players, five coaches, a team manager and a team mother.
The expansion reflects the club’s dedication to nurturing talent and building a strong baseball community.
Speaking on behalf of the club, chairman Shaun Niemand said that the achievement reflects a united effort behind the scenes.

“This milestone is a reflection of the passion and commitment within our baseball community. Every player, parent and volunteer has played a role in building something truly special, and we are incredibly proud of how far we have come in such a short space of time,” he said.
Additional contributions came from scorers Claire Kleber and Heather Horvath, as well as umpire Bevan Strydom, all of whom represented Gauteng with distinction and played vital roles in ensuring the tournament ran smoothly.
The club also extended its appreciation to Nicole Moreira for facilitating support through radio station 947, along with Anele & The Club and various sponsors whose backing proved invaluable to the teams.
