History is about to be made for South African boxing when two Joburg south fighters share the spotlight on the same world stage.

Ricardo Malajika and Siyakholwa Kuse, both from Joburg South, will compete on the same WBC world championship card in Tokyo, Japan, on September 27.

It will be the first time two South African boxers fight for WBC world titles on the same event.

The double bill puts South Africa firmly in the global boxing spotlight.

Kuse, the reigning champion, will defend his WBC Minimumweight World Title against Japan’s Ryusei Matsumoto.

In the co-feature, Malajika will challenge unbeaten Japanese star Tomoya Tsuboi for the vacant WBC Super Flyweight World Title.

Both Japanese opponents come into the fight undefeated, setting the stage for what promoters are calling a huge night of championship boxing.

“This is more than just two fights – it’s a defining moment for South African boxing,” coach Manny Fernandez said.

“It’s another opportunity for these fighters to showcase our world-class talent on one of boxing’s biggest stages.”

The event marks a major milestone for the country’s boxing fraternity, with two homegrown champions from the same community headlining abroad on the same night.

For fans back home in Joburg South, September 27 will be a night to remember as Malajika and Kuse carry the South African flag into Tokyo against two of Japan’s top undefeated fighters.
