Klipdrift looklocal Idols sees Top 3
Eleven contestants presented three songs of their choice on Makitis’s stage, setting the mood for the genre of the song on August 28.
The anticipation of the performances was felt throughout, as every contestant was unique with stage presence and vocals. People put their dancing shoes on, screaming the name of their favourite artist. Dewald Thomas was the favourite from the start.
Pieter Venter, Rainier van Tonder, Dewald Thomas, André Myers, Irene Verwey, Cherese Bissett, Jeané Visagie, Meagan Watkins, Fay le Roux, Amanda de Villiers and Soné Joubert appeared on stage through clouds of smoke and strobe lights, with the spotlight forming a perfect circle around the performing artist.
The audience could not resist either dancing or singing along to many chosen songs… many golden oldies and others a bit more modern.
Winner of the evening, Dewald Thomas held strong and won R5 000, second place – Soné Joubert won R2 000 and third place – Rainier van Tonder won R1 000. The Top three contestants competed at Silver Star Casino for the ultimate prize on September 3. The winner won R15 000 in cash and a contract with Big Boy Records.
Packages for the winners also included a CD from David Gresham studios and Afrikaans aan die Brand CD shop.
Francois Coetze (owner of Makitis) and Riaan Groenwald (Distell) were thanked for their influence in the competition as well as the judges for the evening.
Lucky draws were done throughout the evening as Klipdrift was the sponsor of all prizes won. One lucky visitor won R3 000 in a lucky draw.
Makitis Nightclub is situated behind Lemon Tree by the Pick n Pay entrance, which is also being renovated, with secure parking for all the residents of Alberton and surrounding areas.
