SAPS nab two suspects for possession of stolen goods
One of the suspects punched Sergeant Sithole and tried to reach for his firearm.
MOFFATVIEW – SAPS officers arrested two suspects who were carrying stolen goods and running away on North Road in Rewlatch, on Saturday, September 26. The arrest took place before the suspects managed to escape in a taxi.
Sergeant Frank Sithole and Constable Petros Malatji were driving near the Sasol garage, on the corner of Vickers Road and North Road, when they spotted two men carrying a flat screen TV and a digital camera in plastic bags.
The suspects stopped a taxi in an attempt to flee the scene but the officers were too quick for them.
The officers stopped the taxi and asked the suspects to show them the valuable items as well as proof of ownership. When the suspects could not produce any documentation, the officers asked them to get out of the taxi. One
of the men punched Sergeant Sithole as he was handcuffing the other suspect.
The suspect then tried to grab the officer’s firearm but did not succeed. In a final bid to escape, both suspects attempted to run. They did not get far as JMPD back-up arrived and both suspects were swiftly arrested.
The flat screen TV and digital camera are still in the SAPS’ possession as the legal and rightful owner is not yet known.
