Turffontein Corridors of Freedom gets business support
The Turffontein Corridor will cater for Turffontein and surrounding suburbs such as Kenilworth and Rosettenville. Plans have already been approved for a R2-billion mixed-use housing development project in the South Hills area.
ROSETTENVILLE – Businesses in the South of Johannesburg launched a business forum to work with and support the Turffontein Corridors of Freedom’s planned development for the South.
Members of organisations including KlipSA and SOJO met on Thursday, October 8, at the Suzuki JHB South car dealership along with local councillors, PR Clr Tyrell Meyers and Clr Dannis Jane, to discuss strategies through which businesses in the south can form a partnership with and assist the City of Johannesburg with development planning and urban management. “As a businessman I am proud to be a resident of the South. A tip of the month to all property owners is to invest in the the South of Johannesburg because property values are going to rise significantly,” advised Meyer Benjamin from Ipop Vehicle Sales.
The Turffontein Corridors development, seeks to use transit-oriented development to transcend Joburg’s apartheid-era town planning, bringing schools, services, work opportunities and other benefits closer to residents, including those living on the outskirts of the city.
The programme, which is being implemented in line with the City’s Growth and Development Strategy 2040 (GDS 2040), envisages a future Johannesburg with more parks, green spaces and well-planned transport arteries that link interchanges throughout the city.
Strategic area frameworks for the Turffontein Corridors, Empire-Perth Corridors, that will link Soweto and the CBD, and the Louis Botha-Katherine Corridors, that will link the CBD, Alexandra and Sandton, have been approved.
