JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – After eight weeks of baking training, about a dozen of unemployed community members in the South will be able to make ends meet.
This comes after Region 9 Development Centre provided funds for them to learn how to bake, with the objective of them starting their own business.
Project coordinator, Lindiwe Rasasamole, said community members often come to the centre for opportunities.
“Some of these community members were here for life skills and computer courses. They then asked us if we can help with baking equipment and space, as some were doing it at home. They will be selling their stock to the community and the profit will be saved with the aim for them being remunerated,” explained Lindiwe.
Wiseman Mbolekwa, the director, said there is progress as they are getting orders form the community and he wants to thank Region 9 Development Centre for giving them the opportunity.
Feola Mzobe said they are very excited and they are trying to get more customers.
The community can order scones, ginger biscuits, butter biscuits, muffins, sponge cakes, birthday cakes, banana loafs, and sausage rolls, as well as various platters including meat platters, fruit patters and bread platters.
For orders and enquiries, contact the office on 011 436 1134, Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 17:00.
