DA calls for end to darkness

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The high number of street lights currently not working in ward 56 has become a grave concern for the ward councillor and executive of the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Boroang branch, Dennis Jane.

“Over the past few months I have noticed that quite a number of streets do not have any street lights working and this creates a safety concern for the area, as crime seems to increase when there is a lack of visibility,” Clr Jane explained. He further added that whenever he or one of his branch members see street lights that are not working they immediately report it to City Power.

“It is time for City Power to get their house in order. When there is a lack of visibility it makes it difficult for entities such as Emergency Services, the South African Police Service and security companies to perform their duties effectively,” said Philip Venter, the DA Boroang branch chair. Venter added that the people in the ward pay their taxes therefore these services should be provided effectively and efficiently by City Power.
