In memory of their loved ones
“This was our seventh Memorial Day and it will always be a very special day as I honour the life of my daughter, Vicky Bruce, on this day,” said the hospice’s CEO, Tersia Burger.
Despite a sweltering heatwave, no less than 250 people gathered in the Stepping Stone Hospice gardens in New Market Park to celebrate the annual Memorial Day in memory of their loved ones.
This year, this annual event was hosted on October 25. Families and friends gathered to remember those who went before them and reconnect with the people who cared for their loved ones in their last days.
They were also encouraged to bring along a small photo, letter and/or token in memory of their loved one. This was placed inside a memory capsule that was then buried in the Hospice’s Garden of Remembrance.
“This was our seventh Memorial Day since opening our doors in 2013 and it will always be a very special day as I honour the life of my daughter, Vicky Bruce, on this day. She was our very first patient, our very first death, and the reason that Stepping Stone Hospice exists at all,” said the Hospice’s CEO, Tersia Burger.
