Joburg South councillors retain 2 wards as ActionSA takes Ward 124
With about 80% of votes counted by November 6, Ward 56 and 57 councillors have retained their seats, while ActionSA has taken control of Ward 124.
Following the November 4 local government elections, results are gradually coming in, with Joburg South residents beginning to see how their votes have shaped the political landscape in their communities.
By Friday, November 6, at 13:00, approximately 80% of the votes had been counted.
The results indicated that Ward 56 and Ward 57 councillors had retained their wards, while Ward 124 was set to come under ActionSA leadership.
Re-elected Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame (DA) thanked residents, Democratic Alliance (DA) activists, volunteers and supporters for their role in securing her victory.

“This victory belongs to you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
“This victory would not have been possible without every single DA activist, volunteer and supporter who stood with us throughout this journey. For an entire year, we worked tirelessly, campaigned in the streets, knocked on doors, engaged with residents and stood together with one common goal. Your dedication, sacrifices and commitment made this victory possible,” she said.
Chame said the victory belonged to the entire community, regardless of residents’ backgrounds or political differences.
She added that while the celebrations would eventually end, the responsibility of serving the community was only beginning.
“I won’t promise miracles, but I promise to show up, to listen, to work hard and to remain accountable to the people who have placed their trust in me. “You have given me your confidence. Now it is my responsibility to earn that trust every single day,” she said.
Ward 56 councillor-elect Michael Crichton (DA) also expressed gratitude to residents after securing a renewed mandate with an increased majority.

He said the DA had achieved a clean sweep by winning all six voting stations in the ward.
“For the first time in 26 years, the DA has won both the Rosettenville Central Primary and Rosettenville Tennis Courts voting stations. Thank you to each and every one of you for placing your trust in me once again,” he said.
Reflecting on his 10 years in office, Crichton acknowledged the challenges and successes along the way and pledged to continue advocating for improved service delivery.
“My pledge to you is simple: I will continue fighting for improved service delivery and working tirelessly for our community every step of the way.
“This mandate is a privilege, and I will never take your trust for granted,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni acknowledged that his party had lost the ward to ActionSA.
However, he said they were awaiting the outcome of a dispute lodged over the election results.
“Probably tomorrow or today we might get the final results,” he said.
Across Joburg South, all DA councillors retained their wards, according to the results available at the time of publication.
