One arrested after Verwoerdpark armed robbery

They have been holding up domestic workers or people walking alone in fields in the Alberton area.

One suspect has been arrested and two others are still at large after an armed robbery at a business premise in Second Avenue in the Verwoerdpark area on October 27.

“Our control room received a call for an armed robbery at a business premise in the Verwoerdpark area,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director at CPS Security.

One suspect was chased by tactical officers and was successfully apprehended while the other two suspects fled on foot.

“These suspects have been terrorising people behind the parking area at Makro in New Market. They have been holding up domestic workers or people walking alone in fields in the Alberton area,” said van der Merwe.

The suspect has been handed over to Alberton SAPS and is facing a charge of armed robbery.

“Brilliant work guys. Another gun off the streets,” van der Merwe added.

One firearm recovered.
