Alberton former teacher finds her place as Ligstad’s principal
Hannetjie Turner, Ligstad Playgroup's new principal, is excited to be able to serve Ligstad's vision.
Ligstad Playgroup welcomed its new principal Hannetjie Turner for the new school year.
Hannetjie, a retired teacher, brings her wealth of experience in early childhood development and foundation phase to her home town, where she has lived since 1974.
Ligstad Playgroup caters for children from three to six years with a focus on early development to a child’s maximum potential.
“Ligstad has always been close to my heart because I live in the area,” said Hannetjie.
“I was very happy about my appointment as principal because it is very important for me to work with the dream that Ligstad has. Their vision is to serve the community and I can help in serving the little ones.”
Hannetjie has devoted her entire life to education. “My late husband was also a teacher. We were teaching people,” said Hannetjie.
She describes her work as a passion. “It is where my heart is. Teaching is a calling for me.”
Hannetjie describes her work with children as extremely rewarding. “Seeing a child succeed at something he or she was working on puts a smile on my face. I believe that we as teachers plant seeds and seeing those seeds grow is amazing.”
In her free time she enjoys working in the garden. “I’m actually a very soft person. I enjoy the pretty things in life.”
Hannetjie’s vision is to help Ligstad grow. “We still have space to serve more children,” said Hannetjie.
“I can promise parents that your children will be safe and happy with me. “I understand that parents are concerned with the social conventions regarding the current pandemic. I can assure you that we are adhering to all Covid-19 safety measures.
“I want to personally thank everyone that has made a contribution or donation to enable Ligstad to do what it is doing,” said Hannetjie.
