Athletes hit the road to feed children
Frances Vorwerg Feed a Child Drive will be raising funds in June for the feeding scheme, which is managed by the technical occupational phase (TOC).
Four brave athletes will be hitting the road to raise funds for the feeding scheme at Frances Vorwerg School.
The school’s Feed a Child Drive is an effort to raise funds when the athletes will give their everything during June to raise much-needed funds and create awareness about the project.
The feeding scheme is managed by the technical occupational phase (TOC) at the school.
Frances Vorwerg teacher and athlete Natasha Felix, who will be participating in the fund-raising, said the aim is to raise funds for the feeding scheme.
“We have 33 families who cannot afford food. We buy food parcels every week to take to their homes,” she said.
Felix explained they knock on doors to ask the community to provide them with food to give to these families.
“We have all been in challenging times and we don’t get enough donations for food parcels. I decided to team up with athletes to raise funds to buy more food and to sustain our Feed a Child Drive.”
Felix and three other athletes will be doing various events to raise funds for them to take care of the families.
“Admire Muzopambwa, the frontrunner sponsored by Asics will be running 160km. Noel Smouse will cycle from Johannesburg to Kroonstad, and Tshepo “Fit-Crazy” Malapane will be running 90km from Pretoria to Johannesburg and back again to Pretoria the next day. I will be running 50km,” she said.
Felix urged the community and businesses to support their efforts by pledging financial support to athletes in their efforts to raise funds and awareness about the Feed a Child Drive.
“Each athlete will be raising funds for the feeding scheme, and we will also go out to seek sponsorship for our attempts,” she said.
“We are four athletes, but we are also trying to get other athletes involved to participate. Any athlete is welcome to be part of our challenge,” said Felix.
They only have one sponsor, 32GI Sports Nutrition.
“We need more sponsors and even if they don’t sponsor the athletes, we urge sponsors to support the course.”
Felix said they have started a vegetable garden at the school which will enable them to grow vegetables for the food parcels.
Those who want to donate to this cause can make deposits into Frances Vorwerg School, Absa The Glen, account number 160 330 368.
