The DA Johannesburg South constituency announced its candidate for the upcoming Ward 23 by-election.
The by-election, which takes place on May 19, has arisen due to the resignation of the previous councillor.
Ward 23 comprises Bassonia, Glenanda, Glenvista, Mayfield, Mulbarton, Rispark and South View.
At the virtual candidate announcement, the chairperson of the local ward branch, Jacques van Rensburg, announced that councillor Tyrell Meyers is the DA candidate for Ward 23.
Van Rensburg explained that Meyers is a sitting councillor with lots of experience and knowledge in local government.
“This makes him the perfect candidate for the ward as he is also already addressing the various issues confronting the residents of the ward,” said van Rensburg.
Meyers thanked all present and explained that he will continue with the work he has already started in the ward.
Meyers, who was first elected to council in 2011, has a lot of institutional knowledge which will benefit the ward and its residents greatly.
The political head for the constituency, Manny de Freitas MP, expressed his excitement that the DA saw it fit to appoint Meyers as its candidate for this by-election.
De Freitas said this ward will, at last, have a committed and energetic councillor once he is elected.
