No power after cable theft next to Aloe Ridge Primary
Ward 122 is plagued by thieves stealing transformers.
Aloe Ridge Primary School in Eikenhof is without power after thieves cut cables and tried to steal the transformer on the night of September 16.
The area has been plagued by these thieves stealing transformers. The same thing happened last week in Jackson informal settlement after the transformer had been recently replaced.
The school’s administrator, Melody van Aardt, said the security guard managed to chase the thieves away before they could steal the transformer.
“We are without power as cables were cut and the transformer is left hanging. At least we still have it. Eskom promised to come today to fix it,” she said.
Eikenhof Ward 122 councillor Sthembiso Zungu said Eskom has its security services that deal with such matters and it has been escalated.
Ward 125 PR councillor Matsobane Sekhu said he has been helping around that area even though it is not his ward.
“Last week, a case was opened with the police and Eskom was informed about the matter. We urge them to beef up security around that area and we will continue to engage moving forward,” he said.
