How to live a balanced lifestyle in your 20s in 2022

Here are some tips on how to live a balanced lifestyle in your 20s.

In your 20s, the health habits you form can make a big difference further down the line. Here are some tips on how to live a balanced lifestyle in your 20s in 2022:

Drink Moderately

According to the Mayo Clinic, it should be no more than one drink a day for women and two for men. Overindulgence in alcohol can lead to liver disease in the long run and increases your risk for several cancers and heart problems.

Limit Screen Time

Avoid spending hours a day looking at digital devices as this disturbs your sleep in a significant way. The blue light emitted by screens tricks your brain into staying alert by suppressing melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep cycle.

Tip: Apply the 20/20 rule – Every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, look at something in the distance for 20 seconds.

Prioritize Mental Health

Tend to your mental health by recognizing your needs and catering to them. It’s worth the practice, as it assists with reducing stress and anxiety. If you are struggling to prioritize your mental health, remember that the best way to support others is by taking care of yourself first.

Bury Your Head in a Book

Strive to learn and enlighten yourself—stock up on books related to your interests or hobbies you would like to pursue. According to the University of Sussex research, reading can be a better stress reducer than going for a walk or listening to music – and could reduce your stress levels by 68%.

Get Your Body Moving

Whether it’s yoga, a team sport, jogging or hiking – you must take up a hobby that gets you moving and that you enjoy. If you struggle to set aside half an hour of your day for exercise, squeeze in 10 minutes at a time. This can include 10 minutes of stretches and sit-ups in the morning, a 10-minutes’ walk with the dog when you get home from work, plus 10 minutes of weights in the evening while you wait for dinner to cook.

Catch those Zzz’s

Maintaining good sleeping hygiene is the key to being well-rested and energetic. Try going to bed in the evening and wake up in the morning at the same time every day. This results in resetting your mind’s ‘sleep clock’ and having it get used to the routine of waking up at a certain time.
