Armed robbers steal TLB in Alberton, vehicle recovered in Turffontein

Four to five suspects allegedly held occupants at gunpoint before fleeing with the construction vehicle.

A TLB construction vehicle stolen during an armed robbery in Alberton’s New Redruth on the morning of Monday, September 7, was recovered in Turffontein within minutes.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director of CPS Security, about four to five suspects forced their way onto the premises and held the occupants at gunpoint before fleeing with the TLB.

Van der Merwe said the vehicle’s tracking device was activated after it was stolen, immediately alerting the security company’s response team.

The team responded and tracked the TLB to the Turffontein area, where it was recovered within a couple of minutes.

Van der Merwe said the vehicle was recovered in good condition and handed back to its rightful owners.

No one was injured during the incident, according to Van der Merwe.

Alberton SAPS attended the scene, and police are investigating the incident. No arrests have been made at this stage.
