Sanitary towel drive helps Pimville girls stay in school

A partnership between the Fundi Foundation and Kliptown Police Station is helping learners at Thaba Jabula Senior Secondary School manage their periods with greater dignity while reducing the impact of period poverty.

The Fundi Foundation, together with Kliptown Police Station, joined forces to support learners at Thaba Jabula Senior Secondary School in Pimville through a sanitary towel drive on August 20.

The drive aimed to help young girls manage their periods with greater dignity and confidence. For many girls in the community, a lack of access to sanitary products can mean missing school and valuable learning opportunities.

The initiative formed part of Fundi’s commitment to giving back to communities and enabling lives, while also highlighting an issue that can have a real impact on learners’ education.

For girls who do not always have access to sanitary products, their monthly periods can become a barrier to attending school.

A representative from Fundi said, “Where you come from should never determine how far you can go.”

The message encouraged learners to remain committed to their schoolwork and to start thinking about their futures.

A packet of sanitary towels may seem like a small contribution, but for a young girl who has to choose between staying home and attending school, it can mean one more day in the classroom, one more lesson learned and one more step towards the future she dreams of.
