ELFA senior closing tournament returns with finals set for July 6 in Eldorado Park

The ELFA’s senior closing tournament gives teams a final opportunity to compete for silverware. The knockout event includes clubs like Boca Juniors, Ipswitch, and league champions Petersport FC, with the final scheduled for July 6.

Following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Eldorado Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League season, the league’s management kicked off the ELFA Senior Closing Tournament.

The tournament was launched on June 15 at Ext 6 soccer field in Eldorado Park, with the semi-finals and final now scheduled to take place on July 6, instead of the initial date of June 28.

Group Two features Midas, The Boys, Prayer Warriors, and fan favourites Boca Juniors.

Group Three consists of Ipswich, Eldos Gunners, Aaron, Blitz, and FC Bayern.

According to ELFA competition committee member Owen Perry, the association hosts the closing tournament annually to officially wrap up the senior division.

He said the purpose is to give teams that didn’t win the league or finish in the top four a last chance to compete for silverware.

“The semi-finals will be played early in the morning, and the final will kick off at 15:00. We postponed it because regional ladies’ games will be held at our field this weekend,” Perry explained.

The 2024/25 Eldorado Local Football Association Super League champions are Petersport FC.

He added that each team usually contributes R500 at the start of the year to fund both the opening and closing tournaments.
