Breast Health Foundation gets help from fashion icon

Carolina Herrera De Baez, international fashion and fragrance icon used her name and personal resources to support a cause that is close to her heart.

She launched the ‘Support with a Smile’ campaign; in partnership with Dr Carol Ann Benn the founder of the Breast Health Foundation and Khanyi Dhlomo the patron.
The Carolina Herrera company will donate R5 million over a five year period.
‘Support with a Smile’ will also provide care packs to 40 patients a week which will have over the counter medication to help with the symptoms of breast cancer and toiletries to make the patient more comfortable during chemotherapy.
The campaign aims to hire caregivers and equip them with the tools and training to offer much needed support to women and their families as they fight the most challenging battle of their lives.
One in five women is diagnosed with breast cancer in South Africa according to a foundation release.
Caregivers help around 40 new patients a week between the Charlotte Maxeke and Helen Joseph Hospitals.
Once a week they will do home based visits, in year one it will only be based in Johannesburg but after it will be rolled out to other areas.
Home visits will take place after the first and second chemotherapy treatments as this is the most critical time as most patients struggle to cope with their treatment and side effects after the first two cycles of chemotherapy.
The Breast Health Foundation and ‘Support with a Smile’, South African women can receive the added strength and support they need to fight their disease.
