Rapist sentenced to 21 years
“This makes us happy to see justice. It should also teach other rapists that the same fate will happen to them. I would also like to tell women that they should not be afraid to report rape."
An Orlando West resident was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the rape of his 21-year-old ex- girlfriend on May 5 2011.
The victim had just come from accompanying her child to crèche when she got home and found the accused standing outside with an empty brandy bottle. She says he forced her to go into her shack.
He made her take off her clothes and raped her then left her shack.
The victim then went to report the matter to the police.
The man was arrested on May 19 2011 and he was sentenced on November 1.
“This makes us happy to see justice. It should also teach other rapists that the same fate will happen to them. I would also like to tell women that they should not be afraid to report rape,” said Captain Sibusiso Chauke from Meadowlands Police Station.
