In an effort to ensure safety at schools, Dobsonville Police Station usually conducts school searches looking for dangerous weapons and illegal substances that some pupils sneak into the learning environment.
Communications officer constable Mzwakhe Xazi said the Dobsonville Social Crime Prevention Desk in partnership with Youth Desk visit schools unannounced to search for unwanted items.
Xazi said dagga, knives, porn DVDs, playing cards, cigarettes, broken mirrors, scissors, screwdriver and other items were found on pupils from various schools.
He said the programme of school safety is aimed at ensuring that schools operate without any disturbances.
“Pupils should not go to school carrying weapons or influence others to participate in criminal activities,” said Xazi.
Xazi said minors who were detained were released into the care of their parents.
Learners who are above 18 were arrested and will appear in court soon.
