JMPD cracks down on drunk driving across Johannesburg
The operations led to 192 motorists getting arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The JMPD conducted road safety operations and zero-tolerance law enforcement initiatives across the City of Johannesburg between October 26 and November 1.
The operations included targeted roadblocks, stop-and-search operations and strategic patrols. During this period, JMPD officers across regional commands and specialised units successfully arrested 192 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Driving under the influence remains one of the primary contributors to fatal road traffic crashes and injuries across the municipality. JMPD urges all road users to exercise personal responsibility,’’ said Superintendent Xolani Fihla, JMPD spokesperson.

Fila advised motorists planning to consume alcohol to appoint a designated sober driver, utilise public transport or make use of e-hailing services.
All suspects arrested during the operations have been processed and charged at various SAPS stations across the city and will appear in their respective magistrate’s courts to face the full weight of the law.
JMPD units will maintain a high-visibility, 24- hour presence on major main routes and identified hotspots to ensure safer roads for all residents and visitors.
