Pupil knocked down on Mooki Street

Residents urged to assist pupils to cross the road after school and in the morning.

A Grade Five AB Xuma  pupil was knocked down by a taxi on Mooki Street on her way home yesterday.

The 12-year-old was conscious and did not appear to have any major injuries.

Thobegile Mpaketsane who is in charge of the scholar patrols at AB Xuma Primary said pupils tend to not follow safety rules when crossing the street.

“Mooiki Street is a very busy street, we always stress the importance of road safety to our pupils. Pupils need to use the pedestrian crossing and also cross the road at the scholar patrols,” she said.

Mpaketsane also added that almost every year a pupil is knocked down on Mooki Street.

She said that she urges residents who are not working and have time on their hands to assist pupils to cross the road after school and in the morning.

“We need to work together for the safety of our pupils,” she said.
