Residents turn soil into money

Five women form a cooperative to fight unemployment.

A group of five women have come together with the aim of fighting poverty and to create employment.

The women from Dobsonville have acquired a piece of land in Zondi 2 in which they are using for farming.

They are part of a cooperative called Soneni Ngema Cooperative  which is named after the founder of the organisation.

“People in the community are constantly complaining about unemployment but very few of us are actually doing something about it.

“We just wish that more people out there group themselves and do something they love while making money at the same time,” Ngema said.

According to Ngema, the produce from their food garden will create a mini market in Zondi which will form the second phase of their five year plan.
