The foreign national who appeared at the Protea Magistrate Court on January 26 following his arrest during a public violence in Doornkop (Snake Park) was remanded in custody until next week.
The suspect is alleged to have shot and killed a teenager in a suspected robbery.
He faces charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Soweto police communications officer Kay Makhubela said the suspect has been remanded and will appear in court again on February 2.
Makhubela said police are investigating the case further.
