‘He was my love’ – Grandmother

A three-year-old Westbury boy was electrocuted while playing in the streets with his friends.

A three-year-old Westbury boy was electrocuted to death while playing with his friends on Thursday February 5.

Mikyle Jacobs was playing near the Braamhoff pedestrian crossing with his friends when according to his mother, Shanie-Lee Jacobs, he touched a lamp pole and was electrocuted.

“This never happened before,” Jacobs said, “the children always play there.”

According to eye-witnesses one of Mikyle’s friends got a small shock when he touched the pole but was unharmed.

Suelin Chetty, Mikyle’s aunt, was first on the scene and tried to revive him with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

“It hurts, we did not expect it. He was a very happy child,” Chetty said when she described Mikyle and the loss for the family.

The family blames the ongoing roadwork currently going on in Westbury.

They are alleging that because of the construction underground wires were damaged and exposed. According to Chetty the company used dynamite and it was the explosions that caused the damage to the underground wires.

The family have gotten no response from City Power yet.
