Rea Vaya bus driver recruitment underway

ReaVaya's bus operating company, Piotrans is in the process of replacing more than 150 bus drivers that were dismissed last month.

ReaVaya buses have been seen being escorted by JMPD over the last few days because bus operating company, Piotrans is in the process of recruiting new drivers.

Dumisani Mntambo said they had received an estimated 500 applications since the dismissal of bus drivers who embarked on an illegal work stoppage in January.

“The process takes an average of 3-4 weeks. We have increased the number of trainers and recruitment panel to speed up the whole process” said Mntambo.

Asked about the safety of passengers when services return, Mntambo said the company will be working with the City of Joburg and SAPS to ensure smooth sailing.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to commuters and thank them for being understanding” he added.
