Protea residents protest against Eskom
Residents burn tyres and barricade Mdlalo Road with rocks in protest against Eskom's new electricity meters.
Residents in Protea North are protesting against Eskom’s new electricity meters.
They said that they want the new meters out because “they chow electricity like crazy”.
“These Eskom meters are crazy and we want them out.
“They are so expensive that you load electricity for R550 and it will only last you 10 days,” said Zanele Mkhize one of the residents.
The angry residents were burning tyres and closed off Mdlalose Road with big rocks to prevent cars from passing, in the process bringing traffic to a standstill.
When asked why they had to burn things and close the road they said they are doing that to grab the mayor’s attention to intervene into the matter.
