Residents at the forefront of clean up campaign

Meadowlands residents together with councillor Sphiwe Mbongo have embarked on a cleanup campaign to eradicate illegal dumping.

Meadowlands Ward 41 councillor Sphiwe Mbongo, in partnership with the Department of Environmental Health and Pikitup, launched a clean up campaign at the beginning of the month after receiving outcries about areas that had become hotspots for illegal dumping.

Together with the residents, some of these hotspots have been cleaned and kept in good condition over the weeks.

“The campaign has been such a success that we have decided to let it go on for another month,” said Mbongo.

” It was only scheduled for the month of March but residents are coming out in numbers to clean the community and have identified more areas of concern”

Residents are urged to stop illegal dumping as it is a health hazard and affects the community and environment negatively.
