Global Road Safety Week underway

During this week pupils in Johannesburg will be taught on road safety issues.

From May 4 to 10 the City of Johannesburg’s Transport Department will take the United Nations Campaign called #SaveKidsLives to more than 100 primary and high schools within the City.

Purpose of this initiative is to teach the children more about road safety matters.

Department’s Lerato Mabaso said the fun and interactive campaign will include the reading and signing of the Child Declaration for Road Safety, calling for more improved child road safety throughout the world.

The pupils will also participate in different activities such as art, music, safety competition and will be taught on issues such as the importance of wearing a seatbelt, why children should be seated when in transit and the dangers of them texting, making calls and listening to music while crossing the road.
