R24 million set aside for Eldos

1350 units to be developed for Eldos residents.

Residents in Extension Six are tired of waiting for houses and have taken it upon themselves to grab land.

Since Friday, they marked the vacant land opposite Cavendish Primary School and plan to complete building as soon as they can.

Malcolm Collins lives with his wife and three children in a shack, he’s been staying in a shack for 15 years.

“Houses are built around Eldos but I’ve never seen one person from Eldos getting a house.

“We are tired of asking for houses now we are taking what is rightfully ours,” Collins said.

He said he is tired of paying rent, he wants his own land.

“I don’t mind living in another shack as long as in don’t have to pay rent.

“The place I’m staying at now is so small that my whole family can’t sit in one room,” said Collins.

Residents say government doesn’t care about Eldorado Park and they are only good enough for votes.

Ward Councillor Peter Rafferty assured residents that R24 million has been set aside for development in Eldorado Park.

That amount is equivalent to 1350 units according to Rafferty.

He said processes has been set to determine how many people need houses and monthly meetings have been held.

This is a developing story, watch Westside-Eldos for updates.
