Hobbsie debutant crowned by Miss SA

The top debutant is from the junior phase.

Wareesha Patel was crowned by Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie on Saturday for the debutant who raised the most money for the school.

Speaking to mothers, pupils and guests, Laurie encouraged them to dream, believe and achieve.

“Dream big dreams, have faith and remember it takes hard work to achieve,” Laurie said.

She was invited to the school as she is also an ex-pupil or “Hobbsie” of EW Hobbs.

Laurie’s Grade Three teacher described her as a skinny girl who would always offer to help teachers.

“Liesl was always running around wanting to do something for a teacher.

“She always had the confidence to stand out,” a teacher said.

The lunch was served to mothers, debutants, ex-pupils and guests from the community.

Taahira Katz, Miss Teen South Africa – Gauteng also made an appearance.

Guests were entertained by local artists in song, dance and poetry.
