SuperSport United star launches his foundation
Phala wants to help youngsters achieve their dreams.
SuperSport United captain Thuso Phala officially launched his foundation on Thursday at the Orlando Communal Hall.
The Thuso Phala Foundation is an initiative by the SuperSport United midfielder formed with an aim of nurturing and developing talent in soccer.
Susan Khoza who is Phala’s mother was named chair of the foundation.
She said the organisation was formed with the sole mandate of empowering and developing the youth through sport.
“The foundation will use Thuso’s career to inspire the youth by telling the true story of his hard work, perseverance, discipline, dedication and the ability to bounce back after experiencing setbacks,” said Khoza.
She went on to encourage parents to support their children in their journey to achieving their dreams.
She said, “Parents should not only get involved when the child is about to sign a contract with a big team. They should get involved from the beginning when the child is still dreaming.”
Phala was supported by his mother from an early age when he dreamed of playing in the PSL.
Through his foundation, he wants to give back not only to the community of Orlando but the whole country.
“The Thuso Phala Foundation is a development centre which will give youngsters an opportunity and support to achieve their dreams in soccer.
“I want young boys to be in an environment where they are surrounded by soccer,” said Phala.
The foundation will be holding indoor soccer tournaments across the country to discover new talent.
Phala dreams of growing the development centre to a soccer academy.
