The boyfriend of Zestah September who was found dead on New Year’s Eve has confessed to her murder.
Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane confirmed last Thursday that the boyfriend has been taken into custody.
He is expected to make his confession in writing.
September from Pimville went missing and her body was found by residents on the side of the road in Lenasia.
It had wounds and was burnt beyond recognition. The soldier boyfriend went on the run after September’s body was found.
After receiving a tip off, police found him at the 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria with self inflicted wounds.
It is believed that he tried to commit suicide.
Nkosi-Malobane said they feel confident about the case after the boyfriend confessed.
“We will make sure that we assist the witnesses and prepare them for court. When they go to court, they’ll testify against this monster and make sure he’s taken away from society for a very long time,” she said.
On Wednesday, Nkosi-Malobane and Joburg executive mayor Parks Tau visited September’s family in Pimville to offer their condolences and assure them that the arrest would be made soon.
Madiba, a University of Joburg student went missing in 2013 and her remains were only discovered in December last year.
