CPF urgently in need of bulletproof vests, Eldorado Park
"SAPS does not issue bulletproof vests to any of our members and this makes us feel unsafe when we go out on raids.”
Neill Stewart, chairperson of the Eldorado Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) sent out an urgent appeal for bulletproof vests.
The CPF, in conjunction with the Eldorado Park police, conduct operations throughout Eldorado Park, and its members often find themselves in hair-raising situations. Stewart said, “We raid lolly lounges, and approach criminals who are often armed and we are not allowed to carry firearms.
SAPS does not issue bulletproof vests to any of our members and this makes us feel unsafe when we go out on raids.” The dangerous nature of the work the CPF are engaged in places them squarely in harm’s way and the provision of these vests would ensure that they are alive to continue the task of keeping Eldorado Park crime free.
“We are not limited to patrolling only one sector, and we respond to distress calls irrespective of which area the call originates from, “ Stewart said.
In an area plagued by crime, these volunteers patrol the streets at night to protect those in danger. At the end of each raid or drug bust, their families would like to see them return home alive.
