Burglar gets five years after being caught in the act, Kliptown

Police and patrollers claim victory in the fight against crime.

Dedication by patrollers paid off on Monday when a 36 year old man was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Lenasia Magistrate Court for theft.

According to police reports, the man from Freedom Charter in Kliptown was apprehended by community patrollers who caught him in the act of business burglary.

“Patrollers in the Kliptown CBD heard strange noise coming from Goodwill Panel Beaters on the morning of July 17. When they went to check what was happening, they saw a man putting items belonging to the establishment in a big plastic bag,” said constable Thuli Ngwenya from the Kliptown Police Station.

Patrollers apprehended the man and called the police which detained him.

Ngwenya said, “We thank the cooperation we get from residents and patrollers. We also thank all the witnessed who availed themselves to the court and helped secure the conviction.”
