Two arrested for defeating the justice system

Protea SAPS warns residents not to report false cases as they may be charged and arrested for a criminal offence.

Two men aged 29 and 38 have been arrested for defeating the course of justice earlier today in Protea Glen, Soweto.

On Saturday at about 7:30 pm a man was driving an old model of a Toyota Hilux Bakkie on R558 (Randfontein road) travelling towards Glenridge. He crashed with a white new model Toyota Hilux Bakkie and fled the scene on foot leaving his vehicle at the scene.

On the same day, the man went to the police station to open a case of car- jacking. He alleged that he was hijacked by two men who pointed him with firearms on Randfontein road.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle a Toyota Hilux bakkie (new model) belonged to Police Local Criminal record Centre.

The alleged hijacked bakkie was found at the accident scene and the driver of the state vehicle was able to identify the man, who reported his vehicle hijacked, as the man who fled the accident scene.

The suspect was arrested for defeating the course of justice and he alleged to the police that the owner of the bakkie instructed him to open a false case of carjacking in order to cover up the accident.

The owner of the old bakkie was also arrested for defeating the course justice.

The suspects will appear this week in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on a charge of defeating the course of justice.

Constable Vincent Mashiteng, communications officer of the Protea police station said, “The community is warned not to report false cases because that is a criminal offence and will be arrested.”
